Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee to premiere his new production in Toronto

Kolkata, Sept 23 (IBNS): Art personality Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee will premiere his new production in Toronto's Yorkwoods Library theatre on Sept 25.

Titled 'Confluence', the event will bring together Nova Bhattacharya and Ramneek Singh, two very distinguished artists of North America.

The programme consists of has three segments.

The first session will present Sujoy in a solo journey of poetry, storytelling, letters and lyrics.

His selections for the evening will cover works of Rumi, Ghalib,  Leo Buscaglia, Maya Angelou, Sheniz Jan Mohamed, Rupi Kaur, Gulzar, Harivansh Rai Bachhan, Rabindranath Tagore, Sunil Ganguly and many others.

Post this, would be a conversation with movements by Nova Bhattacharya titled, “A Date with dance”.

This section will engage the audience in an informal chat and performances.

One would come to know about the roots of the Bharatanatyam form in her work and watch excerpts of dances around the discussion.

The dances presented will be Pushpanjali; a classical dance whose literal meaning is flower offering, and maskura and Related Fragments Remix, created in collaboration with tabla virtuoso Ed Hanley, which demonstrate her use of the form in a contemporary aesthetic.

The last segment of the evening is titled, “Surmayi Sham”, will feature a duo with Ramneek Singh and Sujoy.

This segment will be an entourage of Ghazals in Indian Cinema accompanied by anecdotes, life stories and the evolution of styles.

Sujoy will talk about legends like Madan Mohan, Khayyayam, Jagjit Singh, Naushad while Ramneek will entrance the audience with her soulful recital of timeless songs like, “Yun Hasraton ke Dag”, “Aaapki Nazron ne samjha”, “Chalo ekbaar firse” and many others. The event is being presented by Anuradha Sen, a social activist and an ardent art-lover.
