Kolkata: Representatives from 36 accredited American universities recently interacted with over 500 local students and 200 parents at the USIEF-EducationUSA University Fair 2019, hosted by the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) here.

The participating universities offered a range of academic programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctorate levels.

The fair provided students the opportunity to learn the most current and authentic information about U.S. institutions of higher learning, standardized tests, and financial aid all under one roof.

Informative panel discussions on the admissions cycle were given by EducationUSA advisers while a session on the student visa process was conducted by a consular officer from the U.S. Consulate General.

Inaugurating the fair, Monica Shie, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata and Director of the American Center said, “Education is one of the pillars of U.S.-India people-to-people relations” and stressed that “studying abroad is a life transforming experience, and the United States remains the top host of international students globally because in addition to academic excellence, our universities offer flexible curricula and hands-on-training that stimulate critical thinking and innovation.”

The USIEF-EducationUSA University Fair is an annual education outreach event which brings accredited American universities to India for face-to-face interactions with Indian students, parents and high school/college/university faculty. This is the seventh year that the EducationUSA Fair was held in Kolkata.

The fair travelled to Kolkata after opening in Mumbai and New Delhi. Fairs are also scheduled to be held in Hyderabad, Kochi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hubli, Ahmedabad, and Changa.

Regional Officer of USIEF Kolkata Shevanti Narayan remarked, “EducationUSA Kolkata is excited to bring this annual U.S. university fair to students of Kolkata – our biggest fair this time with 36 universities.  I wish students a very productive time at the event.”

EducationUSA is the educational advising branch of the United States government and is the sole source for free and accurate information about U.S. institutions of higher learning.  EducationUSA services are available in the USIEF office located in the American Center in Kolkata.
