Toronto's Alo named the best restaurant in Canada

Toronto, Mar 1 (IBNS): Toronto's Alo, opened in 2015 by Chef Patrick Kriss, has topped the 2017 list of 100 best restaurants in Canada jumping from the seventh spot on last year's list, media reports said.

The annual list of top restaurants is determined by an 82-member panel of judges and printed in the Canada's 100 Best Restaurants magazine. Jacob Richler is the Editor of Canada's 100 Best Restaurants magazine.

“The finesse and discipline of that kitchen he runs — it’s genuinely extraordinary. “You leave an unassuming street and suddenly you’re in this elegant little oasis the moment you emerge out of the elevator shaft. It feels cool and groovy and you’re happy to be a part of it,” the star.com quoted Richler of Patrick Kriss’ restaurant.

Richler added that the location of the restaurant on a third floor above Chinatown on Spadina Ave was part of its unique charm.

Toronto and Montreal made up half of the best 100 entirely, Montreal grabbing 26 spots and Toronto getting 24.

Among 30 new restaurants of this year’s 100 best, Vancouver eatery Kissa Tanto had been named the country's best new restaurant.

The list of the top 10 ranked restaurants in sequence are: Toronto’s Alo; Montreal’s Toque!; Montreal’s Joe Beef;  Montreal’s Le Vin Papillon; Toronto’s Edulis;  Vancouver’s Hawksworth Restaurant at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia; Toronto’s Buca Osteria & Bar (Yorkville); Toronto’s Canoe; Toronto’s Dandylion and Calgary’s Pigeonhole.
