West Bengal Governor inaugurates Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan conference

The theme of the conference was ‘Visionaries for Tomorrow’.

Principals of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s secondary & senior secondary schools all across the country have came together to take part in the conference. The objective of the conference was to bring all the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan secondary & senior secondary school principals to a common platform to discuss and delve on various novel ideas and the best practices that they can further implement in their schools across the country.

The event was also graced by Swami Suparnananda Maharajji (Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Indian Culture, Golpark)as the Guest of Honour, Justice Shri Chittatosh Mookerjee(Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, GK Vidya Mandir), Mr. Prasun Mukherjee (Executive Vice Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkata) and other dignitaries. Dr. Rekha Vaisya (Principal, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan GK Vidya Mandir, Kolkata) welcomed all the principals attending the conference.

Addressing the principals at the conference,  Keshari Nath Tripathi said, “The future emergence of Bharat is dependent on the children. If the spiritual mortality of Bharat is destroyed, the world will sink into utter ruin. Please remember if Bharat is to revive its former glory and become one of the first ranking nations, the way ahead is only through such an educational system which will train the students to understand that the 'The End of Education is Character,” Honourable Governor further added.

Swami Suparnananda Maharajji motivated the audience with his words and inspired all the principals to be good leaders of their schools. At the event, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi also released Newsletter by Bhavan’s Research Centre.

Across the four days various intellectuals and educationists spoke on different aspects of education and shared their views with the principals.

The conference opened with Padma Bhushan Dr. B. M. Hegde (Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mangalore Kendra) who spoke on the topic – ‘What Is Education? Are we all Illiterate?’

  Alokananda Roy (Dancer, Founder of Cultural Academy ‘Chandanaloke’) through her address on ‘Therapeutic Effect of Dance in managing the mental stress in children’ urged the principals that children must be given the opportunity to use their imagination and then only they can be creative. 

Speaking on the topic – ‘The Global Classroom’, Dr. Sugata Marjit (Reserve Bank of India Professor of Industrial Economics, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta) brought up his views on why Indian students lack behind students in the developed nations at present. He said that there is a big gap between the teaching and learning process at present.
