100 youth delegates from ASEAN nations to attend 4th Asean-India Youth Summit

New Delhi: Hundred youth delegates from the 10 ASEAN nations are attending the 4th ASEAN-India Youth Summit being held in Hyderabad in celebration of 30 years of ASEAN-India relations, a statement said on Sunday.

The event is being organised in Hyderabad, Telangana from February 12-16, to provide a platform for young leaders from ASEAN and India to develop a sense of ownership of the ASEAN-India relationship.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region of India G. Kishan Reddy, and Secretary General, ASEAN Kao Kim Hourn addressed the inaugural session on Sunday.

During the course of the Summit, 175 youth delegates, 100 from ASEAN (10 from each of the ASEAN countries) and 75 from India will deliberate on the core themes of ASEAN-India Connectivity, Digital Partnership, Developmental Cooperation & Good Governance, and Cultural & People to People Cooperation.

The youth delegation will also get a chance to explore Hyderabad and gain insights into India's technology sector, the statement said.

Governor, Telangana Tamilisai Soundararajan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, India Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, and Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Trade & Industry, Singapore Alvin Tan, are scheduled to address the Valedictory Session of the Youth Summit.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted on the inauguration.

“Enhancing ASEAN-India Youth Connect. 4th @ASEAN-India Youth Summit inaugurated by @kishanreddybjp @MinOfCultureGoI in Hyderabad today. Organised in collaboration with @indfoundation and asean foundation from 12-16 February," he posted.

“175 youth delegates will deliberate on themes of ASEAN-India Connectivity, Digital Partnership, Developmental Cooperation & Good Governance, and Cultural & P2P Cooperation," he posted.

“The event is a part of the celebration of 30 years of ASEAN-India relations,” he posted.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration). The ten members comprise Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Cambodia.
