161 people of Assam killed by Naga miscreants since 1972
Guwahati, Mar 4 (IBNS): At least 161 people of Assam were killed in attacks by miscreants of Nagaland since 1972 in the areas of Assam-Nagaland border, Assam government said in the state assembly on Wednesday.
Replying of a question raised by AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, state Parliamentary minister Rockybul Hussain said that, at least 161 people were killed and 171 others injured in 25 attacks by miscreants of Nagaland in the inter state border areas since 1972.
The minister said that, in Golaghat district at least 136 people were killed and 166 others injured in nine attacks since 1977 while 19 people killed in twelve attacks between 1972 and 2013 in Sivsagar district.
In Jorhat district, miscreants of Nagaland killed three people in twice attack in 1982 and 2013 and in Karbi Anglong district at least three people killed and five others injured in two attacks in 2004 and 2014.
On other hand a total of 59,159.77 hectares of Assam land are at present under encroachment of Nagaland.
Rockybul Hussain said on behalf of State border area development minister Girindra Mallik that, in Golaghat district 36,013.48 hectares land occupied by Nagaland while 18,871.29 hectares land of Jorhat district encroached by the neighbouring state.
Nagaland had encroached a total of 4275 hectares land in Sivsagar district.
