Guwahati, Jan 27 (IBNS) :  More than 2,000 passengers  of trains headed for Silchar and Guwahati  remained stranded  amid an indefinite curfew imposed in Assam's Maibang area of Dima Hasao district after two people were killed in police firing on Thursday, media reports said.

The two men killed were among the hundreds of Dimasa tribals who were protesting the reported inclusion of the district as part of Greater Nagaland.

The firing took place at Maibong railway station.

A 48-hour Dima Hasao bandh was called by some tribal organisations on Thursday to protest the police firing.

The trouble broke out  following news report that the hill district would be integrated with the proposed “Nagalim” or “Greater Nagaland” as part of a peace agreement between the Centre and Naga insurgents.

According to reports, Southern Assam, Mizoram and Tripura are totally cut off due to this agitation.

On Thursday evening, protesters took out a silent rally carrying the bodies of two firing victims in Haflong, the headquarters of Dima Hasao.
