2G: Raja, Kanimozhi, others seek bail

| | May 26, 2014, at 05:48 pm
New Delhi, May 26 (IBNS) Seven accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, including, former telecom minister A Raja and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi, on Monday sought bail in a Delhi court against an Enforcement Directorate (ED) chargesheet.

Their bail pleas will be heard on May 28.

In April, the ED filed a chargesheet against Raja and Kanimozhi in connection with the 2G scam.

The chargesheet, filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, also named DMK supremo M Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal, Kalaignar TV Managing Director Sharad Kumar and Shahid Balwa of DB Group among others.

In one of the biggest scams of Independent India, allegedly masterminded by Raja, 2G spectrum was given away at throwaway prices in 2008 causing a potential revenue loss of up to Rs 1.76 lakh crore.

Raja, who had languished in New Delhi's Tihar jail for 15 months in connection to the scam, was released on bail in 2012. He was arrested in 2011.
