4 dead, several injured as Kamakhya-bound North East Express derails in Bihar's Buxar; rescue op underway

Buxar/IBNS: At least four people were killed and many others received injuries after six coaches of the North East Express train derailed in Bihar's Buxar on Wednesday.

According to Railways, the train derailed at around 9:35 pm near Raghunathpur station in Buxar district.

Confirming the casualties, Buxar DM Anshul Agarwal said, "We have received confirmation that about 4-5 people have died."

The train, which started from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi, was on its way to Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam.

The injured have been taken to AIIMS, Patna Medical College and Hospital; and Nalanda Medical College

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said that he has spoken to the Disaster Management Department, Health Department, and the district officials of Buxar and Bhojpur to reach the spot and speed up the relief and rescue work.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's office also said that they are "closely monitoring the unfortunate derailment" of the train in Raghunathpur.

A railway official said the rescue operations were underway but the darkness was adding to the difficulty. Visuals of the accident showed some passengers being rescued with the help of stairs.
