Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday proposed doubling bilateral trade with Jordan to US$ 5 billion over the next five years.

The announcement came during the India-Jordan Business Forum in Amman, attended by King Abdullah II, Crown Prince Hussein, and Jordan’s Ministers of Trade, Industry, and Investment.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening business-to-business ties and urged industry leaders from both countries to convert opportunities into sustainable growth and prosperity. King Abdullah highlighted the potential of combining Jordan’s Free Trade Agreements with India’s economic strength to create a strategic economic corridor connecting South Asia, West Asia, and beyond.

Addressing the Forum, Prime Minister Modi underscored the vibrant contemporary partnership between India and Jordan, rooted in deep civilizational ties. He praised the King’s leadership in positioning Jordan as a bridge connecting markets and fostering business growth.

Modi highlighted India’s status as the fastest-growing major economy, on track to become the world’s third-largest, offering immense opportunities for Jordanian businesses. He invited Jordanian companies to partner with India to leverage its 1.4 billion consumer market, robust manufacturing base, and stable, transparent policy environment.

The Prime Minister added that both countries could collaborate as trusted supply chain partners for the global market. Referring to India’s over 8% economic growth, he attributed the success to productivity-driven governance and innovation-focused policies.
