Kolkata, Jun 27 (IBNS): Six persons, including five leaders of Trinamool Congress (TMC), were killed after their SUV crashed into a passenger bus on National Highway 116-B at Marishda area in West Bengal's East Medinipur district on Wednesday early morning, reports said.

According to reports, a Murshidabad to Digha bound Mahindra Bolero SUV collided head-on with a Digha to Howrah bound private bus at Daisai area under Marishda Police Station limits at around 6 am.

Driver and four passengers of the SUV were killed on the spot when another passenger of the vehicle was rushed to nearby Kanthi Hospital in a serious condition.

The person died at the hospital later.

"The deceased have been identified as Haidar Ali, Samarnath Ghosh, Debsagar Dey, Kalam Haji, Asit Das and Bolero's driver Pradip Das. They all were the residents of Kandi in Murshidabad district," a local police official told IBNS.

Haidar Ali, Samarnath Ghosh, Debsagar Dey and Kalam Haji were the members of newly elected Kandi Panchayat Samiti while former local area president of Congress party, Asit Das, joined TMC recently, TMC leaders said.

Police, however, seized both the bus and SUV while driver and conductor of the bus are absconding.

"We have started investigation into the accident," a local police officer said.

Meanwhile, at least four persons were killed in a collision between a truck and a mini-truck, full of LPG cylinders, at Baichigram area under Pandua Police Station limits in Hooghly district of West Bengal on Wednesday afternoon.
