6-yr-old raped in Bangalore school by gym instructors, parents stage protest

Bangalore, July 17 (IBNS) Sending shock waves across the IT city, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two gym instructors of an international school earlier this month, triggering a massive protest by the angry parents on Thursday and forcing the school authorities to finally come out and assure safety measures.

Parents of children studying in the Vibgyor High School on Thursday led a huge protest after the news of the rape was reported and it was followed by a circular by several schools in the city trying to get the parents to sign on paper that the school authorities will not be responsible for bodily harm to students.

The girl was allegedly raped inside the well known international school of Bangalore on July 2 last by two gym instructors who have now been arrested.

The girl reported the matter to parents a few days later.

Parents protested outside the school Thursday and alleged that school staff was involved in the crime.

"The school should own up responsibility instead of hiding," said a parent.

More protests followed after several school authorities grouped together and brought out a circular asking parents to give in signing that the school will not be responsible for any harm to students.

School chairman Rustam Kerawalla was on Thursday forced to come out and address parents who were turning violent.

"We have ensured that the staff are there to assist inquiry," he said, adding that  he would be meeting the victim's parents.

"I am waiting for the final conclusion from the authorities, investigation is on," said the school chairman.

"Whomsoever they are, they are with the police," he said, adding that as additional security measures CCTV installation has been discussed upon.
