Lucknow/IBNS: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Lucknow seized 77 smuggled gold biscuits weighing about 9 kg from two Saudi Arabia returnees after a high-speed chase in Lucknow today, according to media reports.

The DRI sleuths had received a tip-off that two passengers from Saudi Arabia capital Riyadh would smuggle gold biscuits, reported NDTV.

The biscuits were to be handed over to two persons at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, who would then proceed towards Muzaffarnagar.

Once they landed at the airport, the officials tracked the suspects and ultimately managed to nab them on the Agra-Lucknow expressway following a high-speed chase of the SUVs, the report said.

The DRI officials found the two persons travelling from Riyadh and two others, who had come to receive them inside the vehicle, the report added.

On frisking them, the officials recovered 77 gold biscuits that had been hidden in their belts and pockets made in their undergarments, the report informed.

After a detailed investigation, the officials said the main handler of the racket has been arrested in Lucknow and a Customs havaldar, who connived with the smugglers to help them get through the airport, was also arrested.
