8 militant groups active in Assam, 19939 extremists arrested since 1991

Guwahati, Mar 23 (IBNS): Eight militant groups including United Liberartion Front of Asom (Independent), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit) are active in Assam.
Replying a question of AIUDF MLA Abdur Rahim Khan, state Agriculture and Panchayat & Rural development minister Rockybul Hussain said on state assembly on Monday that, eight militant groups including ULFA(I), NDFB(S), KPLT, KLO, HuM, MULTA, CPI(Maoist) and JMB(Module) are active in the state, while 13 different militant groups are in SoO with government.
 
On behalf of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who also took charge in Home department, the state Agriculture minister said that, since 1991 up to March 15, 2015 security forces had apprehended at least 19,939 extremists of different militant groups including 14,982 of ULFA, 4,059 of NDFB, 410 of KPLT, 335 of MULTA, 88 of CPI(Maoist), 51 of KLO and 14 of JMB(Module) from different places of the state.
 
“A total of 6082 incidents were committed by the militant groups during the period including highest 3632 incidents by ULFA in the state,” Rockybul Hussain said.
 
“Security forces also recovered a total of 2059 nos of arms from the militant groups during the period,” the minister said.
