AAP to support INDIA bloc 'unconditionally' in UP for Lok Sabha election

Lucknow/IBNS: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Friday extended "unconditional support" to the Samajwadi Party and other INDIA bloc alliance members for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav Friday announced that even though AAP is not contesting any seats in UP, it will provide complete, unconditional support to the opposition bloc.

Yadav informed that he had a telephonic conversation with Sunita Kejriwal, wife of jailed Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, and extended his support to AAP.

"AAP will fully support the INDIA bloc candidates in Uttar Pradesh. What our role will be and how we will be involved in the campaign will be decided after holding talks with the Congress leadership involved in the campaigning. We will fully support the Samajwadi Party candidates," AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh announced during the joint press conference.

Exuding confidence that the INDIA bloc will win the elections, Singh said that every worker and elected representative of his party will work for the SP candidates.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the arrest of elected chief ministers, Singh said, "If any politician is winning, he would not indulge in such tactics and tricks as being done by the PM of putting opponents in jail by framing fake cases, it means lack of confidence at election time."

Speaking to the media, Akhilesh Yadav said India has been defamed internationally following the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal and other opposition politicians.

"These elections are not taking place in normal circumstances. The entire world is observing us right now. Addressing a rally in Delhi in support of Kejriwal, I said that India has been defamed internationally. People are talking about how elected people, leaders of states, are being treated in such a manner. The institutions which should be giving us justice are being interfered with,” said Yadav.
