Afghanistan earthquake: Death toll nears 300

Kabul/Islamabad/New Delhi, Oct 27 (IBNS): The death toll int he earthquake that hit Afghanistan on Monday has touched nearly 300, media reports said on Tuesday.

The tremors of the quake was felt in Pakistan and India.

While the death toll reached 70 in Afghanistan, Pakistan has witnessed the death of 228 people so far.

Scores have been injured in both the neighbouring nations. The earthquake measured 7.5 on the Richter Scale.

The quake had its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan. Major tremors were even felt in Pakistan.

The IMD website said the epicentre of the quake is located at latitude 36.5 degrees north and longitude 70.8 degrees east.

The IMD called the intensity of the quake, which occurred at 14:39, as 'great'.
