After Gehlot's 'forgive & forget' tweet, Sachin Pilot invited to meeting at 5 pm

Jaipur/IBNS: Sachin Pilot has been invited to a Congress party meeting at Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's home here at 5 pm on Thursday, the first one after Congress leadership heard the rebel leader's grievances and assured to remedy them.

The chief minister made the announcement after tweeting he was all for "forgive and forget" in wake of Pilot's "homecoming", after a panel of Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, put the final seal on "truce" with him on Monday.

"The struggle of Congress party is to #SaveDemocracy under leadership of Smt #SoniaGandhi ji & #RahulGandhi ji. Whatever misunderstanding occurred in the party in last one month, we need to forgive & forget in the interest of country, state, ppl & in the interest of democracy," Gehlot tweeted today, indicating that despite his reluctance he was ready to fall in with the wishes of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

"#SaveDemocracy should be our priority with the spirit of forgive and forget. The conspiracy that is going on to topple elected governments one by one in the country, the way governments were toppled in the states of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh & other states, " he wrote in another tweet.

Gehlot had, earlier, said the Congress MLAs were "naturally upset" about the reconciliation but it is time to move on indicating his disapproval over Pilot's reinclusion.

In a meeting on Sunday last, Congress members of Rajasthan legislative assembly (MLAs) had demanded Sachin Pilot and the 19 rebel lawmakers should not be accommodated in the party.

Reports have said Gehlot's relationship with Pilot had worsened with the chief minister not talking to his deputy in the last 18 months, and referring to him as "nikamma, naakara (useless)", corrupt and "all about good looks and smooth-talking".

To ensure a smooth "homecoming" for Pilot, Congress has dispatched KC Venugopal, who will be present at the meeting, said an NDTV report.

Pilot returned to Jaipur on Tuesday after he met with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Currently, the MLAs of Team Gehlot are staying at Fairmont, the resort they had stayed in when the rebel crisis was at peak. They are likely to stay there till Friday's session, a sign that Gehlot is dropping his guard.
