Aircel-Maxis Case: CBI charges Dayanidhi Maran, his brother
New Delhi, Aug 29 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a chargesheet in the Aircel-Maxis deal case in a special 2G court.
Former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi Maran along with seven others have been named in the chargesheet.
The court has fixed Sept 11 for consideration of the chargesheet.
Malaysian business tycoon T Ananda Krishnan has also been named as accused in the chargesheet.
The CBI has also named four companies including Sun Direct TV Pvt Ltd as accused in the case.
All the accused have been chargesheeted for offences of criminal conspiracy and under various provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
In a significant development, Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi earlier told the CBI that there was enough prosecutable evidence with the agency to file a charge sheet against former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi Maran in connection with the Aircel-Maxis deal.
In its FIR in 2011, the CBI had alleged that Dayanidhi Maran had forced Sivasankaran to sell his entire stake in Aircel to Ananda Krishnan.
Maxis, which is the company owned by the Malaysian businessman in return invested Rs. 650 crores in Sun TV network.
The Sun TV Network is run by the Marans.
