Allahabad HC says triple talaq violates rights of Muslim women and is unconstitutional

Allahabad, Dec 8 (IBNS): The Allahabad High Court on Thursday said that personal law boards are not above the Constitution while ruling that triple talaq among Muslims is unconstitutional, according to media reports.

The HC said that triple talaq violates the rights of Muslim women and personal laws cannot violate the rights granted by the Constitution, media reported.

The Centre has welcomed Allahabad High Court's verdict terming triple talaq as unconstitutional and violation of rights of Muslim women.

Muslim Law board, AIMPLB, said that its legal committee will study the verdict and observation after which it will file its appeal against the said verdict, reported the Indian Express.
