Amarinder Singh won't meet Navjot Singh Sidhu without apology, says CM's media strategist

New Delhi/IBNS: Amarinder Singh will not meet his bitter rival Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is now the new Congress chief in Punjab until the latter apologises for his social media attacks on the Punjab Chief Minister.

In a signal that the feud is far from over, a tweet from Singh's media strategist dismissed reports that Sidhu had sought time to meet the Chief Minister following his elevation as leader of the Congress' Punjab unit.

He said a meeting could not happen till the cricket-turned-politician apologised for "personally derogatory social media attacks".

"Reports of @sherryontop seeking time to meet @capt_amarinder are totally false. No time has been sought whatsoever. No change in stance... CM won't meet #NavjotSinghSidhu till he publicly apologises for his personally derogatory social media attacks against him." Raveen Thukral wrote.

The tweet comes as a disappointment for the party's high command, which has been trying to solve the infighting ahead of the Assembly elections in Punjab next year.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday night appointed Sidhu as the new head of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). He replaces Sunil Jakhar.

The development comes against the factionalism in the Punjab Congress between the camps of Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh.

Sidhu has repeatedly questioned Capt Amarinder's style of working and holds him guilty of not solving the sacrilege case.

On the other hand, Capt Amarinder has accused Singh of not toeing the party lines.

Sidhu was dropped from Local Bodies portfolio in 2019 by Capt Amarinder.

The party wanted to unite the Punjab Congress by accommodating both the leaders as Punjab Assembly polls are coming.
