Amarnath Yatra suspended from Pahalgam route due to bad weather

Jammu, Jun 29 (IBNS): Heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir has suspended Amarnath Yatra from Pahalgam route, media reports said.

Pilgrims, who started their journey on Friday morning, have been asked to return.

An official has been quoted by NDTV, "No pilgrim was allowed to move towards the Cave Shrine because of rain and slippery conditions along the two treks."

The annual Amarnath Yatra to the cave shrine in South Kashmir began on Jun 28.

Heavy rains in Banihal-Udhampur sector had caused landslides on Friday morning, blocking a 260-km highway, which is the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with rest of the country.

Some officials told The Indian Express that the blocking of highway caused traffic jam.

Efforts are also being made to ensure smooth flow of vehicles, report said.
