Anna Hazare named for 'Shahu Puraskar'

Kolhapur, Jun 13 (UNI): Anti-corruption crusader and Gandhian worker Kisan Kisan Baburao Hazare popularly known as Anna Hazare has been selected for this year's prestigious 'Rajashree Shahu Puraskar', on behalf of Shree Shahu Chhatrapati Memorial Trust(SSCMT).

In a press conference, which was held in Shahuji Hall at district collector office on Wednesday evening, Daulat Desai, district collector and SSCMT president, announced this award. The award comprises of Rs one lakh in cash, a Manpatra and Manchinha (plaque).

Desai said that the trust selected Hazare for his contribution towards social and cooperation a movement in which he had transformed Ralegansiddhi village with emphasis on cleanliness, water management and social reconciliation.

He said Hazare also took successful agitation for 'Rights to Information' (RTI) and also wrote a book on it. With this agitation, government had to pass a legislation for RTI.

He had also organised agitations against corruption and sat on hunger strike for 16 times-- 13 against the state government and three against the central government.

Last two hunger strike were for passage of 'Janlokpal' Parliamentary bill.
