Article 371 will remain in force: Union MoS Sarangi

Itanagar/UNI:Union Minister of State for MSME and Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Pratap Chandra Sarangi on Tuesday said  Article 371 will continue to remain in force.

“Article 370 was a temporary provision and had to go but Article 371 is a permanent provision, it will stay,” Sarangi said in his address at the 8th Rutum Kamgo Memorial Lecture at DK State Convention Centre here on the theme‘Abrogation of Article 370 and 35A: A step towards national integration’.

“Article 371, permanent in nature, is to protect the unique cultural demography of the North-Eastern states. Why should it be removed? Please don’t fall prey to
rumormongers,” the Union MoS stated.

Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah forabrogating Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir, Sarangi said the temporary provision should have been abrogated long before.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who was also present, in hisaddress reiterated that Article 371 will not be touched by the Central Government.

“I want to give the clear-cut message to the people of the state that the Centrewouldn’t touch Article 371,” Khandu said.

The CM further stated that the special provisions dealing with welfare of NorthEastern regions and tribal areas contained in Article 371 (A to J) are special
provisions and not temporary, which will remain as it is.

These being special provisions are permanent in nature and are aimed atprotecting the indigenous culture of the states, he added.

On the abrogation of Article 370, the CM said, “It has been 70 years since Indiaattained Independence. But for the people of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladhak,
real Independence came this year after abrogation of Article 370.”

Tuluk Rida and Nyantom Tikkom were awarded the ‘Neelam Nido Award’ inrecognition of their outstanding contribution towards preservation and promotion
of indigenous faith and culture, by the Arunachal Pradesh Charitable Task on the occasion.

Earlier in the day, the Union Minister met the CM  and discussed to work out a proper roadmap for implementation of all government programmes under his
ministry in the region.
