Arunachal: Consultative Committee on CAB holds all-party meet
Itanagar/UNI: Representatives from six political parties including BJP and Congress on Monday attended the all-party meeting called by the Arunachal Government’s Consultative Committee and expressed their opinions on Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Chief Minister Pema Khandu had constituted the Consultative Committee last month to safeguard the rights of the indigenous people of Arunachal following the Central government’s proposal for enactment of CAB.
Bamang Felix, chairman of the Committee and state Home Minister, chaired the meeting at Civil Secretariat here. Representatives of BJP, Congress, National People’s Party (NPP), Janata Dal (United), People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and Janata Dal (Secular) shared their opinions on CAB which were welcomed by the panel members, an official release said.
The chairman further requested the attendees to submit their views on the CAB issue in writing to the member secretary of the Committee at the earliest, it said.
Felix also informed the representatives of political parties that the panel will hold meetings with CBOs and Student Unions on November 5 and 6 respectively, the release added.
The views offered by the various stakeholders will be taken into consideration prior to finalisation of the recommendations by the Committee, it stated.
The panel will submit its recommendations to the state Government which will be further presented to the concerned Ministry, so as to ensure that adequate provisions are incorporated in the aforesaid Bill safeguarding the interests of the people of the state.
The Bill seeks to give Indian citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, is likely to be tabled in the Parliament in the ensuing winter session.
