New Delhi, June 25 (IBNS): Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar has resigned from his post days after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, media reports said on Thursday.

Kumar on Monday said he has informed Singh that he wants to resign from his political chair.

This comes when Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said new Governors will be appointed soon.

"We will decide on the appointment of new Governors in three to four days," Singh told media.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan has reportedly told Singh that he needs more time to make up his mind.

On the other hand, Puducherry Governor Virendra Kataria also met Singh on Monday.

Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt resigned from his political chair on June 19.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Governor Banwari Lal Joshi, Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj and Assam Governor JB Patnaik resigned from their posts on June 17.

Joshi sent his resignation letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), while Bhardwaj and Patnaik met President Pranab Mukherjee and submitted their papers.

Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7, Race Course Road here on June 17.

It was a courtesy call, said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

According to reports, all the Governors, who were appointed by the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, are likely to resign from their posts.

This came after reports said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government might change Governors in five states.

Pertinently, the Governors in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal were appointed by the previous UPA government.
