Assam: 10 persons injured in train accident

Guwahati, May 23 (IBNS) : At least ten people were injured after a passenger train derailed in Assam's Kokrajhar district on Saturday morning, officials said.

North East Frontier Railway official said that five coaches and the engine of the 55753 Alipurduar-Guwahati Sifung passenger train were derailed at an over bridge between Salakati and Basugaon station in Kokrajhar district at around 5.15 am.

At least ten persons, including driver and assistant driver of the passenger train, were injured in the accident and they were  rushed to nearest hospital.

NF Railway had canceled ten local trains including New Jalpaiguri-Dekargaon passenger, Fakiragram-Kamakhya passenger, New Jalpaiguri-Coochbehar special, Dhubri-Fakiragram passenger, Guwahati-Alipurduar passenger, Kamakhya-Fakiragram passenger, Fakiragram-Dhubri passenger, Silghat-Dhubri Rajyarani Express, New Coochbehar - New Jalpaiguri special, Kamakhya - Alipurduar intercity express.

Top railway officials have rushed to the area and started restoration works.

NF Railway has ordered a probe into the accident.
