Assam: Dilip Kumar Baruah passes away

Guwahati, Apr 28 (ibns) : Eminent litterateur, educationalist, economist of Assam Dilip Kumar Baruah on Friday passed away in Guwahati following old age ailaments.

Baruah, who is known as the father of quizzing in Assam was 73.

The eminent economist was undergoing treatment at the Ayurchandra hospital in Guwahati in past couple of days.

The former principal of Cotton College, one of the premier educational institution of north east India and Haflong College, Prof. Dilip Kumar Baruah was also the associate member of the second Assam State Finance Commission and the 7th Assam Pay Commission constituted by the Assam government.

Born at Siphajhar in Darrang district, Baruah had completed his higher studies from the Delhi School of Economics.

Dilip Kumar Baruah had played an active role in the functioning of the Gauhati University, Indian Institute of Bank Management, Assam Administrative Staff College and several government, non-government institutions, organizations in the state and north eastern region.

He has written several books for the higher secondary and degree level courses in Assam and quiz books.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the death of eminent economist and educationist Prof. Dilip Kumar Baruah.

In a condolence message, Sonowal stated that the contributions of late Baruah as an academician and economist would always remain memorable in the minds of the people of Assam. Baruah’s visionary leadership as Principal of Cotton College helped the premier educational institution to scale new height of success and create a better academic environment.

The Chief Minister also expressed his deepest sympathies with the bereaved family.

On the hand, All Assam Students Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Assam ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Pramila Rani Brahma, Naba Doley, Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Congress’s Assam unit, BJP’s Assam unit, AIUDF and several organizations had condoled on demise of the eminent economist.
