Assam flood: Congress MLA seen carrying relief materials on his back

Guwahati, July 23 (IBNS): When several lakh people having been affected in the devastating floods of Assam, a Congress MLA has shown his humanitarian side to help the flood affected people.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, a Congress legislator, who represents Mariani constituency in Assam’s Jorhat district, was seen carrying rice sacs and other relief materials and distributing food among the flood affected people.

The Congress MLA and other members of the Assam State Congress Committee have participated in a flood relief distribution activity and they visited Assam’s flood-hit Golaghat district on July 22.

Kurmi and his team had visited the flood-hit Kamargaon area in Golaghat district and was seen carrying relief materials on his back and distributing relief materials among the flood affected people.

Kurmi was seen in July 2017 carrying a rice bag on his back at a flood relief camp in Bokakhat Assembly constituency in Golaghat district and that photograph went viral on social media.

Rupjyoti Kurmi said it is his duty to help the people.

“As a human, it is our duty to help the people who are going through problems. I am a son of a tea garden labourer and I know very well the problems of the people,” Rupjyoti Kurmi said.
