Assam flood situation turns more worsen, death toll mounts to 27

Guwahati, July 9 (IBNS): The overall flood situation in Assam has turned more worsen on Sunday as one more death moved up the death toll to 27 and flood waters inducted more areas in the state affecting nearly 5 lakh people.

According to the reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), water level of Brahmaputra river flowing over danger level mark at Dibrugarh, Neamatighat in Jorhat, Tezpur in Sonitpur, Goalpara, Dhubri.

A top official of ASDMA said that, till Sunday, a total of 4,86,726 people of 15 districts of the state are affecting in current flood.

The flood waters of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries had inundated 41,239.19 hectares agricultural land of 1096 villages of Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Golaghat, Cachar, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Karimganj, Sonitpur, Majuli, Barpeta, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivsagar, Chirang and Morigaon districts.

On Sunday, one person drowned in flood waters in Nilambazar revenue circle in Karimganj district as taking death toll mounted to 27 in current flood.

“1,20,908 people are affecting alone in Lakhimpur district, while 1,19,760 people affected in Karimganj, 54,052 in Golaghat, 51,549 in Dhemaji, 30,279 in Cachar district,” the top ASDMA official said.

On the other hand, flood waters submerged over 55 per cent areas in Kaziranga National Park.

“The flood waters inundated 99 forest camps out of 181 in the national park,” a park official said.

Meanwhile, the state forest department has used drones to monitor the flood situation in the national park.
