Assam government imposes total curfew in five district, Eid Namaz at Mosque allowed with five persons maximum

Guwahati: In view of the current COVID-19 situation in the state, the Assam government on Monday issued fresh Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and imposed total curfew in five districts in the state and other restrictions.

The state government has also issued directives for upcoming Eid celebrations in the state and said that, celebration of Eid, all persons are to celebrate from their homes and Eid Namaz at Mosque is allowed with only five persons maximum including religious head.

“There will be total containment in five districts showing high positivity rate in recent days and in the districts showing moderate positivity rate viz. Goalpara and Morigaon districts, the curfew will be from 1 pm to 5 am,” said in the order.

The curfew will be from 5 pm to 5 am in Dhubri, Kamrup (Metro), South Salmara, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Charaideo, Hailakandi, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Bajali, Kamrup, Darrang, Nagaon, Hojai, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Cachar, Karimganj and Karbi Anglong where the positivity rate is showing improvement.

“All work places, business/commericial establishments, shops, dealing with groceries, fruits and vegetables, diary, and milk booths, animal fodder, restaurants, dhabas and other eateries, sale counters, showrooms etc. of cold storages and warehouses will be closed till further order in districts showing high positivity rate and up to 4 pm in districts showing improvement in positivity rate. There will be total ban on movement of all public and private transport in the total containment districts. However, movement of goods will continue. In other districts, all public transport authorities will enforce COVID-19 appropriate behavior and seating inside the vehicles, carriers, containers etc,” said in the government order.

All inter-district passenger transport services and movement of people to and from other districts will remain suspended.

The state government has directed the authorities of all educational institutions including schools, colleges, universities to continue to provide quality virtual options, no physical classes are allowed.

The government has banned all meetings, gatherings at any open or closed spaces.
