Assam multi-crore rupees scam: V&AC arrests IAS officer

Guwahati, July 28 (IBNS): The sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption of Assam police on Friday arrested an IAS officer in connection with the multi-crore rupees scam in Social Welfare Department.

According to the reports, following a tip-off, a team of V&AC launched operation and arrested former director of Social Welfare Department Dilip Borthakur from his residence at Gandhibasti in Guwahati.

Earlier, the V&AC had issued look out notice against Dilip Borthakur and another former director of the department Kumud Kalita, who were absconded since long.

A top official of V&AC said that, Kumud Kalita is still absconding and the investigating teams are trying to catch him.

The investigation organization had earlier accused 11 persons including the two former director of Social Welfare department in the charge sheet filed before the court.

The V&AC had registered a case in connection with the Rs 2250 crore scam in the department following directive by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal last year.
