Assam polls 2021: 23 per cent votes polled till noon

Guwahati/UNI: More than 23 per cent votes have been recorded till 11:30 pm in the first phase of polls in Assam.

Voting got underway at 7 am in all the 47 constituencies in Upper Assam.

Voters came out in large numbers with the crack of the dawn in various polling stations. Long queues were noticed in various polling stations.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is in the fray from Majuli constituency, exercised his voting franchise in Dibrugarh.

Many star candidates like AGP President Atul Bora, APCC President Ripun Bora, newly floated AJP's Lurinjyoti Gogoi cast their ballot in the morning hours.

There were reports of few EVM malfunctioning in polling stations which delayed the voting procees in some constituencies.

There were no reports of any untoward incident from any corner of the state.
