Assam polls: Rahul Gandhi slams Election Commission with a two-worded tweet over EVM controversy

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi came down heavily on Election Commission with a two-word tweet after controversy erupted after polling officials were seen carrying an electronic voting machine (EVM) in a BJP candidate's car in Assam.

"Election 'Commission,'"  Gandhi tweeted in what is perceived as a direct attack on the poll body.

After the alleged video went viral on social media, the Election Commission has suspended four officials and ordered repolling in a station in Assam's Ratabari.

Rahul Gandhi's tweet also came after the Election Commission halved the 48 hour ban on BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma for threatening to send former BJP ally Bodoland People's Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary to jail.

Sarma will now be able to campaign tomorrow before the third and the final phase of Assam assembly polls.

The vehicle in which the EVM was transported in the car of BJP candidate, Krishnendu Paul's wife. The incident sparked violence in Patharkandi in Karimganj district where the seat is located.
