Assam publishes first draft NRC with 1.90 crore people; MP Badarrudin Ajmal excluded, ULFA (I) C-in-C Paresh Baruah’s name appears

Registrar General of India S Sailesh, who made public the draft NRC said the names of the rest 1.39 crore applicants are under verification process.

“This is just a partial draft. It covers 1.90 crore people out of total 3.29 crore applicants, who submitted their documents to include their names in the NRC. We have published the first draft after completion of verification of 1.90 crore people. The rest 1.39 crore people are under different stages of verification and we will come out another draft after completion of verification process,” RGI Sailesh said.

RGI Sailesh and NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela had briefed media on December 31 night in Guwahati just ahead of first draft publication through four government websites.

NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela said  those, whose names are not included in the first draft, need not worry.

“There is no need to panic. Verification process is going on and after its completion we will publish another draft,” Hajela said.

People can check their names in the part draft online and NRC authorities published the part draft in www.nrcassam.nic.in, www.assam.mygov.in, www.assam.gov.in, www.homeandpolitical.assam.gov.in, www.partdraftnrcassam.in, www.partdraftnrcassam.com, www.draftnrcassam.net, www.partdraftnrcassam.net, www.draftnrcassam.in, www.draftnrcassam.com, www.nrcassamonline.net, www.nrcassamonline.in.

The draft NRC was also released at 2500 NRC Sevakendra across the state at around 8 am on Monday. 

The applicants can check their name in the draft NRC at NSKs from 8 am to 4 pm on Monday and  from 10 am to 4 pm from Jan 2 to Jan 31.

RGI Sailesh said  the entire process will be completed within 2018.

Meanwhile, tight security has been arranged at all NSKs across the state.

The application process for the NRC updation  started in May 2015 and around 6.5 crore documents were received from 68.33 lakh families across the state.

According to reports, the names of  All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Chief and Lok Sabha MP Badaruddin Ajmal, former Assam Congress Minister Dr Ardhendu Dey have been excluded from the first draft of NRC.

On the other hand,  the names of Paresh Baruah, the elusive commander of  the banned outfit ULFA (I) and the members of his family have  been included.
