Assam Rifles nab two Naga militants in Arunachal Pradesh
Guwahati, Apr 24 (IBNS): Security forces have apprehended two Naga militants and recovered arms ammunition in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said.
According to the reports, based on intelligence input the Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles launched an operation at Muktwa village in Khonsa district on Monday and nabbed a militant belonging to banned NSCN (K).
Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that there were reports of presence of terrorists of NSCN(K) under Self Styled Sergeant and Rajapio Wangphiak Lowang as they were trying to carry out extortion in Khonsa area.
“A swift operation was launched in which the troops of the Khonsa battalion established a cordon around the suspected area. The troops observed a suspicious individual moving in the area, the individual was challenged and asked to surrender but he tried to flee. The troops were highly vigilant and located carefully to cut off all escape routes from the area and when the individual tried to run he was quickly nabbed and overpowered. On searching, the individual was found in possession of large quantity of explosives, Cordex, Safety Fuse and detonators. He was also carrying ledger of extortion from villagers and extortion letters meant for illegal collection of money from villagers, shopkeepers and businessmen of the area. During the spot interrogation the hardcore terrorist confirmed his allegiance to NSCN(K) and revealed that he is an active cadre from the 1st Mobile Battalion of NSCN(K), was enrolled in the outfit in 2010 and has been acting as Self Styled Rajapio of Soha and Deomali areas carrying out extortion and kidnappings in the area,” Colonel Konwer said.
On the other hand, the Longding battalion of Dao Division undertook an operation in Longphong area on Tuesday and apprehended Self Styled Private Wangphai Wangsu of NSCN(IM) who is a hardcore cadre and was terrorizing people to extort money from the locals.
Security forces recovered one pistol and ammunition along with a magazine of an automatic weapon (AK-47) with ammunition.
During interrogation, he revealed that he was trying to carry out extortion from locals and businessmen of Longphong area.
The militant was recruited by the banned outfit in 2015 and was wanted by the police for extortion.
