Assistant Director of NGO arrested for molesting three minor girls

Guwahati, Aug 6 (IBNS)  : In a shocking incident after the Bihar shelter home rape episode, a senior offiial of an NGO working in Assam has been arrested allegedly for molesting three minor girls.

 

 

 

According to reports, the Assam Police have arrested SOS Children's Village Deputy Director  Paukha Loon Vaiphei for the alleged crime agaist the girls who were among the 140 children looked after by the organisation.

The NGO started working in Assam in 1988 with its campus being in the Azara area on the outskirts of Guwahati.

The 44-year-old official, who hails from Manipur, had allegedly moletsted the three girls when he was with them in a car on July 22.

The victims informed the village authorities against Vaiphei, but no action was taken.

The incident came into light on August 1, when the victims narrated the incident to the members of Rotaract Club, which organised a six-day leadership camp in the village. The members of the club informed it to local journalists.

A child rights organisation, UTSAH, lodged an FIR at Azara police station on August 2 and police  registered a case (no – 486/2018) under section 10 of POCSO Act.

The official was arrested the next day, Ashok Dutta, Officer-in-Charge of Azara police station, said.

“We have registered a case following the FIR and arrested the accused person. Further investigation is on," Dutta said,.
