At least 40 arrested in Vadodara, police vigil on

Vadodara, Sep 29 (IBNS): At least 40 people have been arrested as clashes broke out between members of the two religious communities in Gujarat’s Vadodara on Saturday, reports said.

Paramilitary forces have been deployed in the violence-hit region. Mobile Internet and text messaging services have been suspended also. The suspension on mobile phone services would remain in place until September 30 to stop any further clashes.

According to police sources, no major incident of violence has been reported since Saturday, barring a few sporadic cases of stone-pelting between the two communities.

Senior police officials set up camps in the affected areas to keep a watch on the situation.

Sources said the two groups had pelted stones at each other and set vehicles afire on Saturday following several days of spiraling tensions.

Tensions have been mounting in Vadodara since Thursday after photos that were circulated on social media incited communal tension.
