New York/UNI: Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne said she met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and both affirmed their shared focus on Indo-Pacific security and prosperity ahead of the Quad Leaders’ Meeting.

Referring to the 2+2 meeting between her and the External Affairs Minister earlier this month in New Delhi and their meeting in New York, she tweeted on Wednesday: “After our inaugural 2+2 Foreign & Defence Ministers Meeting in New Delhi earlier this month, my friend @DrSJaishankar and I met again at #UNGA to affirm our shared focus on Indo-Pacific security and prosperity in advance of this week’s Quad Leaders’ Meeting.”

The meeting between Marise Payne and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar took place on Tuesday, just over 10 days after their in-person meeting in New Delhi for the inaugural India-Australia 2+2 talks.

“Met our Quad partner Australia. Took forward strategic conversations with FM @Marisepayne from our last meeting,” Jaishankar said in a tweet on Tuesday after his bilateral meeting with Marise Payne.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has arrived in the US, will be participating in the Quad Leaders’ Summit on Friday, and also hold a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
