Babri Masjid demolition verdict: All accused including LK Advani, MM Joshi, Uma Bharti acquitted

New Delhi/IBNS: Twenty-eight years after the demolition of the Babri Masjid and less than a year after the verdict which paved way for the construction of Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya, three ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veterans and 29 others were acquitted by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the case related to the bringing down of the mosque on Wednesday.

Three BJP leaders Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti were accused in the case.

The court has acquitted all the accused citing lack of evidence and stating the audio of the yatra, which the BJP leaders had led on the day of masjid demolition, was not clear.

However, the judges said anti-social elements had climbed the dome of the mosque on that day.

The verdict comes almost three decades after the structure was razed by a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, triggering a communal tension.

Reacting to the verdict, BJP leader Ram Madhav tweeted, "Victory triumphs. CBI court’s acquittal in RJB conspiracy case was long overdue. A malicious case against some of the most respected leaders of our nation has fallen aside finally after 3 decades. Everyone should welcome the judgement."

Less than a year ago, the Supreme Court had ruled the construction of Ram Temple in the disputed site of Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya where the masjid was present before 1992.
