Bengal CID takes over probe into Mar 10 Nandigram incident that left Mamata Banerjee injured

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday took over the probe into the March 10 Nandigram incident in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured during her campaign for the forthcoming assembly polls, officials said.

According to sources in the CID, the state probe agency has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is likely to visit the scene in Nandigram on Sunday to investigate the matter.

Earlier on Mar 10, Mamata Banerjee alleged that four-five people intentionally manhandled her in Nandigram and she had suffered injuries to her left leg.

Claiming it was a 'pre-planned deep-rooted conspiracy' against Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress had moved to the ECI.

Though the commission later ruled out the allegation of the attack on the Chief Minister and called it an 'accident' as the crowd went 'too closer' to the CM due to a security lapse.

The commission also removed the director of security for Mamata Banerjee as well as the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of East Medinipur district.
