Bengal Guv Ananda Bose expresses concern over situation in Sandeshkhali

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday assured the people of this trouble-torn area, especially the women, that he was with them and would do whatever could be done to alleviate their "sufferings", official sources said.

In one and one talk, Bose allowed the women to narrate what they had to say and after listening to them, he said, "This land belongs to the Kali Mata and Durga Mata."

The Governor said he would always remain with them for their welfare.

The women, scores of them covering their head and face with saree, came into the path of the visiting governor and sat on the road to narrate their situation.

They demanded the arrest of absconding TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his close aide Sibu Hazra.

One of them tied a rakhi to the governor's right hand and requested him to ensure the deployment of the central armed forces as they lost faith with the local police force, where many state top officials were present to guard the visiting dignitaries.

"We only need to return our land and restore peace so that we can live peacefully with our family members," the married woman said.

She also apprehended that once the governor would go back, they may face more torture because they have opened their voice for the first time agaist Shahjahan Sheikh and Sibu Hazra.

"Whenever we tried to complaint with the police administration against repression, they would all the time return without any assurance from the police department," another woman told the Governor.

The governor took the note and asked his Raj Bhavan officials to collect all the written complaints.

They also alleged that absconding Shajahan was very much in Sandeshkhali even as a look out order was issued on January 6.

Meanwhile, the BJP MLAs led by Suvendu Adhikari were stopped at the Basanti highway by the police on their way to Sandeshkhali.

The BJP legislators in a bus on the way to Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas, were stopped after the policemen blocked the road with a fleet of vans as well as human shields of uniform men.

Adhikari protested this and said the area was not under Section 144 of CrPC.
