Bengal Guv seeks compliance report from govt on no arrest of TMC leader Sahjahan Sheikh

| @indiablooms | Jan 08, 2024, at 08:29 pm

Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has expressed concern as to why TMC leader Sahjahan Sheikh was not arrested in the past three days and sought a report from the Mamata Banerjee government regarding his whereabouts and action taken status on the issue, official sources said on Monday.

Bose on Sunday held meeting with CRPF Inspector General( Bengal circle) Virender Kumar Singh and some Enforcement Department (ED) officials and sought to know how the attacks were orchestrated when an ED team, escorted by the CRPF personnel, had gone to raid TMC leader

Shajahan Sheikh's residence at Sarberia under Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas on Friday.

Sources said the Governor has sought to know from the government what action it has taken in the alleged ration distribution scam, why the

TMC leader has not been arrested so far despite his order to arrest him immediately and if Sahjahan was in the country or fled elsewhere.

Bose also asked the state government to "hold accountable those allegedly responsible for failing to control the law and order situation and to take proper disciplinary action against the police personnel for dereliction of duty," sources added.

The Governor on Saturday directed the DGP of West Bengal to immediately arrest the culprits, who orchestrated attacks on the central probe agency as well as on the CRPF personnel.

Meanwhile, the CRPF Bengal circle has directed its forces to be equipped with proper gears, like helmet, body protection and lathis while on a raid in future.

BJP state unit president Sukanta Majumdar said the attack on ED officials by associates of TMC's Shahjahan was alarming and reflects a concerning trend in the state.

Majumdar, who called the Governor on Sunday, said, "I have urged our Hon'ble Governor Dr. CV Ananda Bose to take immediate action to restore safety and confidence in the state's law enforcement. Safety First."

The BJP leader quoted the Governor as saying " the mockery in the democracy can not be allowed."

The ED has also issued a lookout notice for the TMC leader.
