Bengal polls a ‘fight for liberation from fear’, says Amit Shah as he unveils TMC chargesheet

Kolkata/IBNS: The upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to end the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), are a fight for “liberation from fear”, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday.

“This election is about liberation from fear and about trust. This trust has become the central issue of Bengal’s election,” Shah said at a city hotel during his one-day visit to the poll-bound state.

Shah made the remarks while unveiling what he described as a “chargesheet” against the TMC government, listing a series of allegations against the ruling party.

Targeting the state government on national security, Shah alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had denied land to the Centre for border fencing despite formal requests.

“On May 4, a BJP government will be formed in West Bengal, and within 45 days, the required land for border fencing will be provided to the Government of India. We will stop infiltration,” he said.

The Union Minister also accused Banerjee of resorting to “victim card” politics, claiming she frequently cites illness, injury, or blames the Election Commission.

“People of Bengal now understand this victim card politics. Attacking a constitutional institution like the Election Commission goes against Bengal’s culture,” Shah said.

He further claimed that while peaceful SIR processes have taken place in other states, the situation in West Bengal became so serious that the Supreme Court had to appoint a judicial officer, calling it “extremely shameful”.

Questioning the role of illegal infiltrators, Shah said they would be identified and deported, asserting that they should not determine the future of the state.
