Bengal polls: ECI refuses to accept Chief Secretary's reply on show cause to Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata/New Delhi, Apr 18 (IBNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday told the West Bengal administration that it would not accept Chief Secretary's reply on its show cause notice to Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, sources said.

According to ECI sources, the commission communicated with state's Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee and told him that the ECI was not accepting  his response on its show cause notice to Mamata Banerjee. The commission has also directed that only Mamata Banerjee's own reply would be accepted in the case.

All opposition parties have welcomed the decision of the ECI.

Earlier on Thursday (Apr 14), the ECI had served a show cause notice to Mamata Banerjee for an alleged breach of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during an election campaign in Asansol.

WB's Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee on Friday sent a reply to the ECI, on behalf of Mamata Banerjee.

Meanwhile, hitting out the ECI again, Mamata Banerjee on Monday said from a mass rally in Bardwan district, "In the show cause notice, Election Commission addressed me as the Chief Minister of the state. So, we wrote on my administrative pad. If they address me as Trinamool leader, then I would write reply on my party's pad."
