Kolkata/Siliguri/IBNS: Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has called for establishing the Panchayat model in Bengal as was envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi.

Stating that the three-tier Panchayati Raj system is the backbone of society, Banerjee, who has embarked upon a two-month-long Jono Sanjog Yatra (mass contact outreach) ahead of the West Bengal Panchayat polls, said, "People must have the right to recommend candidates who'll serve them without bias."

Calling for revolutionizing the PRI System, Banerjee said, "A revolution that will significantly improve the lives of the masses."

"People must identify candidates who'll work for them regardless of caste, class, religion, or political affiliation," he said.

He also reaffirmed a strong commitment to bring about revolutionary changes in Bengal and uplift the lives of all.

Earlier, Banerjee said Jono Sanjog Yatra represents their firm resolve to uphold the ethos of Ma, Mati, Manush (Mother, land and people - the pet slogan of Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee.

"In the days to come, if we want to bolster our fight against the injustices, we need dedicated soldiers in the Panchayats," said Banerjee.
