Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay commences his India visit, meets Narendra Modi

Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who is currently visiting India, met his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday when the two leaders discussed various aspects of the relationship shared between India and Bhutan.

Following his meeting with the Bhutanese counterpart, Modi posted on X: "Glad to meet my friend and PM of Bhutan@tsheringtobgay on his first overseas visit in this term. Had productive discussions encompassing various aspects of our unique and special partnership. I convey heartfelt thanks to His Majesty the King of Bhutan and

@PMBhutan for inviting me to visit Bhutan next week."

Tshering Tobgay also met Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar who said he values the leadership of the Bhutanese leader for taking forward the relationship between the two neighbours.

"Delighted to call on PM @tsheringtobgay of Bhutan during his India visit. Value his leadership in taking the unique relationship forward," Jaishankar posted.

Tobgay will be on an official visit to India from 14-18 March, 2024 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit is Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay’s first overseas visit after assuming office in January 2024.

During the visit, the Prime Minister of Bhutan will call on Indian President Droupadi Murmu.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay will also visit Mumbai during his visit.

"India and Bhutan enjoy exemplary ties of friendship and cooperation, based on trust, goodwill and mutual understanding at all levels. The visit of the Prime Minister of Bhutan will provide an opportunity to the two sides to review the progress in our unique partnership and to discuss ways and means to expand the enduring ties of friendship and cooperation between India and Bhutan," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
