Big political shake-up: KCR’s daughter Kavitha floats new TRS after BRS fallout

In a significant political development in Telangana, former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha has launched her own political party, marking a formal break from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), media reports said.

New party launched

Kavitha has named her party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)—reviving the original name of the BRS which was rebranded in 2022.

Flanked by supporters, she unveiled the party’s name and flag at Munirabad in Medchal district.

Background of split

Kavitha had resigned from the BRS in September 2025 after being suspended over alleged anti-party activities.

Her exit followed escalating tensions within the party leadership.

Sharp allegations against party leaders

In a dramatic escalation, Kavitha publicly accused her cousins—T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Kumar—of corruption and conspiring with the state government and the Central Bureau of Investigation to damage her father’s reputation.

She controversially described them as “anacondas of corruption,” underlining the intensity of the internal rift.

These allegations were linked to the ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project.

Crisis within BRS

The BRS leadership reportedly held late-night meetings at KCR’s farmhouse before deciding to suspend Kavitha, signalling the seriousness of the internal crisis.

Legal troubles and arrest

Kavitha had earlier been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate and later by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Delhi excise policy money laundering case.

She remained in custody for several months before securing bail in September 2024.
