Bihar: Huge cash seized in special drive during Lok Sabha election

Muzaffarpur, Apr 24 (UNI) In a special drive launched in view of Lok Sabha election, police seized Rs 39.50 lakh near Turki police outpost in Muzaffarpur district today.

Police said here that the cash was recovered from the possession of a motorcyclist on National Highway 77 during checking of vehicles in view of Lok Sabha election. Sources said that the motorcyclist identified as Raju Kumar was taken into custody.

Police said Raju during interrogation claimed that he was working as a carrier boy and one Sumit Kumar had handed over the cash to him at Gandhi roundabout in Hajipur for its delivery to his brother Suraj Kumar. Income Tax authorities had been informed about the seizure.

As it is, one cannot carry cash more than Rs 50,000 from one place to another without authentication in view of imposition of model code of conduct following announcement of the election schedule.
