BJP distances itself from Sakshi Maharaj's '4 children' remark

New Delhi, Jan 7 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday distanced itself from party MP Sakshi Maharaj's remark that Hindu women should produce four children and said it was the leader's personal opinion.

"The statement given by BJP MP Shri Sakshi Maharaj is a personal opinion. The Bharatiya Janata Party believes in good governance and development," BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said in a statement.

"It is requested from all party workers that they concentrate all their efforts in the promotion of all the work being done for public benefit and should distance themselves from unnecessary opinionated statements," he said.

Sakshi Maharaj has triggered a controversy by saying that Hindu women should give birth to four children.

Addressing a gathering on Tuesday, the BJP leader said: " We have accepted the slogan 'Hum do, hamare ek'. But these traitors are not satisfied with it. They have given another slogan 'Hum do aur hamara. They even advocated marriage of a girl to a girl and of a boy to another boy. This is what the last government did...Hence, I will  request women to give birth to at least four children."

"Give one of the children to sadhus. The media was telling me that there are ceasefire violations happening at the border. So, send another to the border," he said.
