Guwahati, Apr 19 (IBNS): Eyeing the polls of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has engaged its 34 MLAs and leaders as in-charge of the 26 constituencies under council.

During a crucial meeting held at Brahmaputra state guest house in Guwahati on Wednesday in presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP’s state unit president Ranjit Das and its several legislators, the saffron party has engaged its MLAs and leaders for each council constituency.

A top source of Assam BJP said that, the party has given charge to senior leader Harekrishna Bharali for overall management of the council poll.

The top source further said that, party candidate selection procedures for the council election had also discussed in the meeting.

Meanwhile, Assam CM Sonowal and state BJP president Ranjit Das asked its MLAs and leaders to make a road map for the poll.

On the other hand, the party source said that, the saffron party would likely to finalize its candidates next week.

“Besides corruption charged present council members, BJP will choose clean image figures to field its candidate,” the source said.

Recently, few Executive Members of the council led by a senior leader had sent a letter to the Assam CM and BJP’s state unit president against the present Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang  for his various corruption scams.

The state election commission is all set to hold the council poll in next month and likely to announce the poll dates this week.
